Composition

Cefquinome 25 mg – Excipients q.s. ad 1 ml.

Pharmacotherapeutic category

Antibacterial for systemic use (4th generation cephalosporin).

Properties

Cefquinome is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin that acts by inhibition of the cell wall synthesis. It is bactericidal and is characterized by its broad therapeutic spectrum of activity and a high stability against penicillinases and beta-lactamases. In vitro activity has been demonstrated against common Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including strains of Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Haemophilus parasuis, Escherichia coli and anaerobes (Bacteroides spp., Fusobacterium spp.).

Indications

For the treatment of bacterial infections caused by the Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms sensitive to cefquinome, such as: respiratory tract infections; digital dermatitis, infectious bulbar necrosis and, interdigital necrobacillosis in cattle; acute E. coli mastitis with systemic involvement in cows; E. coli septicaemia in calves; MMA in sows; streptococcal meningitis, arthritis and epidermitis in piglets.

Dosage, route and method of administration

IM injection: 1 – 2 mg cefquinome per kg BW (0.5 – 1 ml/25 kg BW), once daily for 2 – 5 days, depending on animal species and indication.

Vials of 100 or 250 ml.
Carton with 1, 6 or 12 vials.
